A four-Sunday Beginner's Workshop for Film Directors takes place at the SABC in Sea Point, Cape Town on July 3, 10, 17 and 24.
Hosted by the SABC, the informal workshop takes aspirant filmmakers through the filmmaking process from pre-production, production and into post-production, and also examines industries locally and abroad.
The workshop discusses the cinematic interpretation of the material by the director and the personal style invariably projected into the picture; the art and technique of storyboarding and its importance in the film process. It follows the process from casting to blocking a scene to discovering the rehearsal process. Picture editing and simple guidelines on practicing the art of directing are also discussed. It encourages filmmakers to discover the elements that make a good screenplay, and the requirements for being a good director.
Dirk Fourie, who has trained aspirant filmmakers in workshops for directors and Xperimental filmmaking the past three years, facilitates the workshop.
It is a great training ground for candidate film directors, who want to pursue a career in filmmaking.
