Sithengi Calls for Panelists to constitute the Selection Panel/Board of the HIVOS/Sithengi Film Fund
Established in 1995, Sithengi is a Section 21 company mandated to promote the development of, and trade in, African and more specifically South African television and film product to a global market. This is accomplished by hosting the Cape Town World Cinema Festival, 11 - 20 November 2005, incorporating the Sithengi Film & Television Market, 15 - 18 November 2005.
The Sithengi Film & Television Market is the only market of its kind in Africa and our main aim is to provide a platform whereby industry leaders, decision-makers, entrants and aspirants can convene in an environment that promotes the African industry identity in a sustainable, profitable and internationally recognisable way. Sithengi has proven an influential engineer and facilitator of initiatives that affect growth and development in the film industry in the SADC Region.
Dutch NGO, HIVOS has, for some time, administered a film fund for regional filmmakers out of its Harare Regional Headquarters. This fund has been used to fund a variety of projects and producers in the region.
In order to increase the capacity and expertise of the fund and to realise more consistently the objectives of the Fund, HIVOS have solicited the support of Sithengi to run and administer the fund for the next year (2005). Sithengi will play a strategic role in undertaking to build the fund through partnerships with other donors as well as to develop a comprehensive strategy for marketing & communications.
Sithengi is calling for submissions from persons within the film industry from South Africa and the SADC region with appropriate background and expertise in the development of feature films, short films and documentaries in order to objectively facilitate the evaluation and selection process. This panel will also constitute the Board which will provide governance to the fund.
Selection Criteria:

Sithengi will draw up a Terms of Reference for the Board

Members need to have regional experience

The board will be comprised of people who would not be accessing the fund

The Board will consist of either 5 or 7 people

There will be remuneration for travel and expenses for members of the selection panel/jury
The Board will convene in April 2005. Disbursements will take place in April and September 2005. The term for which the Board will be appointed will be from March to October 2005.
