Festival Director Position
Sithengi is a not-for-profit Section 21 Company which was established in 1995 to promote the growth, development and trade in film and television product amongst Africans and between Africans and the world. Sithengi accomplishes this through the hosting of two events outlined above and through a number of industry support programmes administered from its offices in Cape Town. Sithengi would like to appoint a new:
Festival Director/CEO
Pro-active candidates with strong leadership profile will be required to:
- Raise funding in both the public and private sectors for the hosting of the events and the running of the organisation
- Improve the marketing and sale of existing products to drive revenue growth
- Manage a small permanent staff in the organisation and execution of the two events within the budget
- Determine the Artistic direction of the Festival and make final decisions on films to be shown in conjunction with the festival programmers and consultants
- Manage existing industry support programmes and originate new programmes that will improve the quality of film and television projects and products from Africa, especially South Africa presented at the market
- Maintain relationships with all stakeholders in the industry especially funders and sponsors both local and international
- Develop programmes with other agencies that will grow audiences for film especially South African film and will improve market access for local producers.
- Continually improve the marketing and communication of the Sithengi brand especially online
- Report to the Board and industry regularly
Candidate requirements and skills are:
- Charisma, track record of hard work and achievement, and a strong vision for the growth and development of the film and television industry in South Africa and Africa.
- Extensive media or arts industry experience with a preference for Business or Arts graduates
- Fundraising experience and achievement
- Management experience especially event management
- Marketing and communications experience
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
