CityVarsity Film and Television and Multimedia School offers a first in training courses: how to apply for funding for projects in film, TV, multimedia, theatre and radio.
In the very first outcomes-based and SAQA-compliant short course on funding applications, CityVarsity offers applicants a unique opportunity to develop essential skills and practise them in interactive sessions.
Howard Thomas, course designer and presenter, has worked in the entertainment industry for over 30 years and is an accredited trainer and assessor. "Professionals in the creative industries rely almost entirely on funding for project development and training. When they fail to get enough money, it's because they haven't used the simple skills needed to get attention and sympathy."
He points out that many projects get off the ground under-funded, and either get into trouble half way, or end up not fully achieving their objectives. "If a project does not achieve its objectives, that money is wasted. The funder is disappointed, and it creates a bad feeling not only for the project managers but for the development of the industry in South Africa as a whole."
In this intensive one-day course, delegates will learn how to: 1. Define a project 2. Calculate the costs of a project 3. Analyse the needs of the funder. 4. Design the proposal.
The course will run in both Cape Town and Johannesburg during the months of July and August.
The course costs R1 250 per delegate, including delegate materials and lunch.
