Anna Miralis has been has been acquiring documentaries for SBS-TV for the last six years and has been working in the Programming Department of SBS-TV for 10 years and in acquisitions/presales for documentaries for the previous five years.
SBS is Australia's national, multicultural, government-funded broadcaster, transmitting programs from 6am to 3am daily in a variety of languages. They are consequently in search of quality films and documentaries from anywhere in the world. 70% of their output is material purchased from overseas. Our main requirements are for quality documentaries, feature films and telemovies.
The Documentary slots include As It Happened: modern history. 60min.; Cutting Edge: controversial issues, current affairs, investigative. 60min.; Hot Docs: critically acclaimed theatrical films. 60min or feature length.; Lost Worlds: archaeology and ancient history. 60min.; Masterpiece: programs on the arts. 60min or feature length.; Sexuality: informative and entertaining documentaries examining all aspects of human sexuality. 60min or feature-length.
SBS have an occasional need for unusual, high-quality, one-off half-hour documentaries.
The Documentary Series includes Global Village: quality informative and entertaining programs about people and places for an early evening slot. Global Village have a preference for long-running series made up of stand alone episodes.13 or 26 min. Half-hour 7.30pm: quality informative, entertaining series for early evening. Cooking, lifestyle, light science and travel programs (off beat - not magazine style). SBS have no slot nature/wildlife or adventure programs.
We buy approximately 400 hours of factual programming per year.
