Join us for the launch of WIFTSA.
Women in Film and Television, South Africa (WIFTSA) will be officially launching at Sithengi on the 17th of November 2005. We will be holding a cocktail party at Zula's on Long Street, Cape Town from 18h00 - 21h00. Come help us plot a new course for all South African women in film and television.
Women in Film and Television (WIFT) is a non-profit, international organization dedicated to advancing the professional development and empowering women in Film & Television. With over 10.000 international members in 35 established WIFT chapters across the globe, WIFTSA has been founded to inspire, encourage and promote equity for all professional women, students and those aspiring to work in the industry. On 17th of November 2005 WIFTSA will host its first South African networking event.
For the motivated, the enthused and the plain curious.
WIFTSA will be the first African chapter headed by Fiona Tudor-Price and supported by a Board of Directors consisting of experienced individuals and vibrant newcomers to the industry.
The organisation aims to provide a forum for industry professionals where women in the industry can come together and discuss their issues, ideas and experiences on a platform that encourages openness and growth. WIFTSA will also offer an extensive network for all its members both nationally and internationally, as a support base for reference and referrals.
WIFTSA is first and foremost an events orientated organisation, conducting a number of exciting events aimed at developing a strong community focus amongst its members. In addition, WIFTSA shall facilitate training workshops that would cover a variety of issues prevalent to the industry through participation from organisations such as universities, film schools, the Independent Producers' Organisation (IPO), the Cape Film Commission (CFC), Commercials Producers Association (CPA) etc.
"We aim to establish an inclusive, transparent organisation that will be focussed on the development of women in film, television and new media industry. It will have a strong bias towards skills development and networking" says Fiona of WIFTSA.
WIFTSA will promote equality and opportunity for women of all races in all areas of the South African film and television industry with emphasis on access to opportunities for the disabled.
