Yasmin Mohamed is an Independent Filmmaker, Producer & Scriptwriter. She has partnered with City Varsity in Cape Town and initiated and designed a new short course for this institution which will start in early April 2006.
It will be launched on a high scale level where Bollywood filmmakers and stars will attend this event. She is in charge of this whole SA Bollywood project and venture which will be a six months "SA Meets Bollywood" short course. This will be a joint venture with some Bollywood filmmakers and some media organizations.
Bollywood is growing by the day and seek newcomers all the time, day-by-day. Bollywood is a form of good entertainment and also educates people too. Eastern entertainment is one of the most popular known to people all over the world today. Bollywood is an extraordinary art and is growing in all cultures. It goes deeper and exposes talent and its culture too. People all over the world especially South Africa crave to be part of this world of entertainment. One of the Indian cultures extraordinary talents are singing, dancing and acting. There are lots of great Indian talents in our community which needs to be brushed up, recognized and exposed. It is important that everyone should be given the opportunity to prove themselves worth to the Bollywood industry. Yasmin therefore designed and initiated this course in this aspect.
This course will entail an Exchange Student Programme; an Internship Programme where students will get to work on local and International Bollywood productions doing Documentaries, Short Films, Feature Films and various other things like television programmes and television commercials; and a Bollywood SA Cinema Festival where students will get to showcase their work and talent to an international level. Other extra activities involved will be a City Varsity Bollywood Magazine and a City Varsity Bollywood SA Casting Agency. City Varsity Bollywood SA Casting Agency will only be available to the students doing this course and it will allow students to get an opportunity to act in Hindi films, work on television and film productions, television commercials and working with Bollywood stars.
This course as a whole with everything endorsed will be initiated for the first time in South Africa. It will be a footstep towards a new career for South African's and many others and it will be a great opportunity for students to pursue their career. This will be a performance driven course and it will take into account students' personal development so that they don't fall out of track. Students will be given tuition to make sure they became well-equipped and well-balanced in a professional manner. Opportunity should be acknowledged and grasped that Bollywood filmmakers will be offering their services and vice versa.
