The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) in partnership with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) will once again provide a platform for the South African film industry at the Cannes Film Festival 2005. The South African pavilion will be situated in the International Village, within the Cannes market. There will be an extensive programme of events, which will consist of the following:

South African films invited to the Cannes "Tous Les Cinemas du Monde" - All the cinemas of the world.

South Africa has been invited by the Cannes Film Festival to present films within a new initiative "All the cinemas of the world". As part of the official programme at Cannes, this initiative is dedicated to the presentation by selected countries of a varied showcase of their cinematographic creation.

The NFVF has recently put out a call to all producers/ directors to submit films for consideration in this programme. The closing date for submissions was 15 April 2005.

South Africa day at Cannes will be on Monday 16 May 2005.

Producers Network

The NFVF will once again be a partner at the Producer's Network at Cannes 2005. This event is an exclusive opportunity for South African producers to network with high-ranking international producers, who have registered at Cannes as part of the network. As a partner to the Producer's Network, the NFVF would like to make a call to all producers who have an interest in being a part of the producers network to submit their applications for this year's event. Producers can register on-line at www.marchedufilm.com/pn; the registration needs to be accompanied by a fee of 336 euros. On the 13 May, there will be a special spotlight on South Africa at the network, during the breakfast session.

DTI support for producers attending Cannes.

The department of trade and industry (DTI) has made provision for 10 South African companies to attend the Cannes film festival this year. Applicants would have to go through the normal application procedures through the DTI system, fill in the DTI application forms and supply all the relevant information as requested in the forms. The closing date for applications to Cannes is Friday 8 April 2005. Please find a copy of the application form attached. South African marketing material on the South African pavilion

The South African pavilion provides an ideal platform for South African film companies to market their product. The pavilion is purpose built as a marketing and business platform to provide the ideal environment for companies to conduct business. The NFVF is making a call to filmmakers to provide marketing material and VHS/DVD screening tapes on their companies, services and products. We will accept material from companies whether or not they will have a representative at Cannes. The stand is permanently manned by representatives of the NFVF and a French speaking hostess, who will make themselves familiar with the content of your marketing material and screening tapes and hand them out to visitors to the stand. Please send your marketing material to Mpho Monama, NFVF 87 Central Street, Houghton, and mark your packages "Cannes Marketing Material" the Closing date for submissions is 15 April 2005.
