The National Film & Video Foundation Call for Nominations


Members of the film and video community, and the general public are hereby invited to nominate members for Council of the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), as per requirement of the National Film and Video Foundation Act, 1997 (Act 73 of 1997). The Council will consist of no fewer than nine and no more than fourteen members.

The objects of the NFVF include to advise the film and video industry, to encourage the provision of, and encouragement of persons especially in the disadvantaged communities to get involved in the film and video industry, to encourage the development and distribution of local film and video products, and also to address historical imbalances in the infrastructure and distribution of skills and resources.

Nominees should have special knowledge or experience in the film and video industry, or specialist skills which are not directly related to the film and video industry but which would be beneficial to the Council, such as legal knowledge, knowledge of marketing, liaison and fund-raising. Nominees may not hold office in any political party or political organisation.

An independent panel appointed by the Minister shall compile a short list of no more than twenty names. The brief of the panel will be to ensure that the final selection will as far as possible include people with qualifications or special experience or interest in the film and video industry, people representing all communities and both genders. The overall selection is to be of the highest possible caliber.
Nominees shall thus be interviewed in public. Any member of the public may object in writing to the nomination of any person. The members shall be appointed by the Minister.

Anyone wishing to nominate members for the Council or NFVF should submit:

(a) A letter giving reasons for the nomination and the nominee's full name and address, telephone, cellular-phone and fax numbers, and e-mail address.
(b) The nominee's curriculum vitae explaining his or her suitability for appointment.
(c) A brief statement, signed by the nominee agreeing to the nomination.
The names and contact particulars of three referees who know the nominee.

No nomination will be considered unless all the above information is submitted.
