Zimbabwe International Film Festival Call for Entries
Entering its eighth year, the Zimbabwe International Film Festival (ZIFF) will take place from 26 August to 4 September 2005. With the catch phrase, Create! Elevate! Innovate! ZIFF is calling for entries from around the world in three categories: feature films, short films and documentaries.

Sewende Laan Roadshow to visit Mitchells Plain
The highly popular Afrikaans television soap opera, Sewende Laan, is to visit Mitchells Plain in October as part of a groundbreaking partnership between Artscape, the hub of the performing arts in the Western Cape, and the Afrikaanse Taal en Kultuurvereniging (ATKV) to promote cultural activities in Mitchells Plain.

e.tv to Commission 7 Local Documentaries
In the interest of developing production capacity in South Africa and also to ensure diversity in our documentary programming, commercial free-to-air channel e.tv will be commissioning one half-hour documentary from producers in each province excluding Gauteng and the Western Cape.

Italy looking to meet with South African Filmmakers
Herewith please find information on the Italian Film Festival with a focus on Lina Wertmuller that will take place in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. The festival is organised by the Italian Embassy, the Italian Trade Commission, Cine Cita Holdings and the Italian Ministry of Arts. Ms Wertmuller is looking to meet with South African film makers who are interested in pursuing a co-production between Italy and South Africa. In Italy, on Saturday night, the South African film, Mbiya and his Cow won four major awards at the Ciak Junior Competition. Peace Mnisi who plays the lead role of Mbiya was nominated as best actor.

Press Release: Sithengi Elects New Board and Reports on Sithengi 2004
At a Board meeting held on 28 April 2005 Sithengi, the curator of the Cape Town World Cinema Festival (CTWCF) and Sithengi Film & TV Market, elected its new Office Bearers. Mr Eddie Mbalo, NFVF CEO, has been elected chairperson of the board with Ms Yvonne Kgame, SABC Content Hub, as Vice Chairperson. The NFVF and SABC are Sithengi's two main financial partners. The Sithengi Board is constituted of representatives of Sithengi's main financial partners and industry: Department of Communications (DOC), Department of Arts & Culture (DAC), National Film & Video Foundation (NFVF), SABC, City of Cape Town, Provincial Government of the Western Cape and industry representative, Ms Seipati Bulani-Hopa. Additional members of the board are being nominated.

HIVOS/Sithengi Film Fund Update: Huge Amount of Applications Received For Exciting New Film Fund
The April funding round for the HIVOS film fund was overwhelmingly received and saw a huge number of applications flood into the Sithengi offices. Applications were received from all over Africa, the majority however coming from South Africa.

Co-production between South Africa and Italy to be concluded in Cannes 2005
South African producer, Richard Green (Jazz Spirit Productions), will meet with his co-production partners from Italy, Enrico Colletti of Anaada Films and Massimo Vigliar, of Surf Films in Cannes to sign a co-production deal for John Kani's adaptation of Nothing but the truth. The signing ceremony will take place on the South African Pavilion.
